Sun Chips and Wall-Mart
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009I am sorry to say, I am still a bit stuck on the same topic. Maybe that’s because our economy has only worsened since my last entry. “Trickle up” is still on my mind.
What I hear constantly from people trying to decide if buying organic is worth is or necessary are phrases like “is it really important” “worth it” “does it matter” “we didn’t eat organic and we are fine”.
That last one is my favorite. We might be fine, but barely. Allergies, disease, obesity is sky rocketing. Food has changed. The happy meal we ate when we were young is considerably different than it is now. It still might have not been a quality, low fat, high fiber meal. But the buns weren’t injected with extra sugar, the meat wasn’t full of antibiotics, hormones and GE feed, and the soda even had real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.
And corn that is genetically engineered. This food is toxic. Literally toxic.
So the problem is we don’t know if kids like my nephews and nieces, will be ok in 20 years. They are literally being experimented on. My niece Kendall told me she went to Mc Donalds and it was ok because she ordered apples instead of fries and she got chicken nuggets. “it’s real chicken auntie Kris”
So I ask you to think of a few things, just a few things, each time you buy something.
Who is this company?
What is in this food?
Did you know that you can buy a coke, cheeseburger, fries AND a taco for $2.69 at Jack in the Box?
TWO SIXTY NINE! Out the door for less than $3 with tax.
Does anyone else see how incredibly wrong that is?
I don’t want to bash Jack as a company, he could be very good to his employees. But to be able to buy all that food and resell it for $2.69 and make a profit is something, that as an owner of restaurants for 8 years now, I can’t understand how it’s possible. I get the concept of marketing and loss leaders, but still……it’s just wrong. And mostly what’s wrong about is the people that supplied that food, that grew it, that raised the cows for the burger are a certain level of company. This is trickle down. When you buy that $2.69 toxic meal you are supporting an industry of people that don’t care about you.
They care about their bottom line and they take every short cut to ensure they make as much money as possible.
We have more power as consumers than we realize to decide what companies are in our lives. What products are in our homes. What companies fill the strip malls.
Most, if not all the corn in Frito Lay Brand Chips is Genetically Engineered? If everyone understood the dangers of GE corn and stopped buying Frito Lay chips, Frito Lay would have to make changes. They would demand the farmers grow conventional corn if not organic corn. And the farmers want to grow conventional or organic, it’s cheaper and better on their land. But this is a whole other topic.
I called Frito lay, who owns Miss Vickie’s and Sun Chips, both of which say “natural” on their packaging, and asked them if their products contained GMO’s. The very nice woman told me that they buy all their ingredients on the open market and it’s impossible to know which ones are GE and which ones aren’t. And she sent me two coupons for .55 off any purchase.
This was a flat out lie. Of course they know. All of these ingredients cost different prices and are marked clearly. Very clearly. In my opinion this is a company that only cares about their bottom line. And they take it even one step farther and make misleading claims calling their chips “natural”. A GE corn seed is considered a first class herbicide. Zero nutritional value and full of toxic chemicals. There is nothing natural about it.
Start reading labels. Start asking questions. The more you know the scarier it is, but at least you can make informed decisions. Your health does depend on it.
Think about what companies you would want lining the streets you walk.
Imagine a world where businesses cared about you. There are quite a few that do, and unless we support them we will continue to get more of the same. See video below.
