We could not find too many "health" benefits on vanilla, but we did know what flavor we were after and decided to go with 100% Pure Tahitian. However, a major benefit is that we can sweeten and flavor things with out poisoning our bodies in the process. Again....the answer is in nature and always has been! Vanilla adds to the flavor of our bar without adding toxic sugars that our bodies weren't designed to digest.
We wanted every ingredient in our bar to be from the earth, all natural
and unprocessed, so when you eat it your body knows exactly what to do
with it. And the more you learn about us, you will see that we are not
about "finish
your broccoli at the table" kind of nutrition! We find a way to
make things that are really good for you taste really good! Food is meant
to be enjoyed and nourish our bodies. It can even heal and cure many
aliments and diseases. It was never meant to poison us, but that is what
many of our current foods do! And to make it worse our "cure" are
pills and drugs.
We need to stop the crazy cycle and at GoodOnYa we are trying,
one cafe and one bar at a time!!!!
There are natural sweets that are really good for you and taste really good but large corporations don’t use them because they cost more- bottom line!
Below is some fun history of the bean, and again, we see that this info dates back to the 1800's. You won't find too many quotes on corn syrup that date past our life time!!!
Tahitian vanilla (Vanilla tahitensis) comes from planifolia stock that
was taken to Tahiti. Somehow it mutated, possibly in the wild. It is now
classified as a separate species as it's considerably different in appearance
and flavor from Bourbon vanilla. It is similar to Vanilla Pompona, which
is a variety of vanilla rarely used commercially. Vanilla Pompona has religious
and cultural significance with the Totonacas of Mexico who were the first
cultivators of vanilla. They consider Pompona the queen of vanilla, and
she is always planted in a prominent place wherever they grow vanilla.
Tahitian vanilla is sweeter and fruitier and has less natural vanillin
than Bourbon and Mexican vanilla. Instead, it contains heliotropin (anis
aldehyde), which is unique to its species. This gives it a more cherry-like,
licorice, or raisin taste. It has a very floral fragrance, the bean is
fatter and moister than Bourbon vanilla, and contains fewer seeds inside
its pod. Tahitian is especially nice in fruit compotes and desserts, as
well as in sauces for poultry, seafood and wild game.
Attributed Medicinal Properties
From the time of the Aztecs, vanilla was considered an aphrodisiac.
This reputation was much enhanced in 1762 when a German study found that
a medication based on vanilla extract cured impotence — all 342 smiling
subjects claimed they were cured.
It was also once believed that vanilla was a febrifuge, used to reduce
fevers, though it is rarely used for any medicinal purposes other than
as a pharmaceutical flavoring.
