NatureFlex™ Bar wrapper
Statement from founder Kris Fillat about our the loss of NatureFlex.
After thousands and thousands of dollars and almost 2 years of trial and error; no one is more sad than I to announce we can no longer use NatureFlex for our bar wrapper. At least at this time it’s not working. We have determined that the natural oils in our bar eat away at the the natural fibers of the seal.
The wonderful people that make this film worked hard to find us another option, and there is one that exists, but the company who makes it, Flex Star, will not sell it to us. We were told that this company only deals with quantities of 10 million or more. This material is called Mater-Bi and it has been tested with nut oils. It would line our NatureFlex and provide a barrier that would contain our natural oils and give us the best compostable option available. It’s compostable and non gmo, the two most important things to us. It sickens me that this company will not share this material with us.
Welcome to corporate America GoodOnYa Bar!
What can we do now?
Part of me feels like moving to Costa Rica and growing my own veggies so I don’t make any imprint at all. But at least I do feel good about supporting the organic movement and creating a product that is exactly what we should be eating……FOOD!
Our New Wrapper
#5 plastic is used for most of the food we eat. Bars, yogurt and cottage cheese, hummus etc. The good news is it is recyclable and there are plenty of places around that do it! Yah!
Wholefoods has drop off boxes for #5 plastics but our soft wrappers CAN’T be put in them. The Gimme 5 program is a great program that recycles HARD #5’s into other products. Please do not put our wrappers in the Wholefoods bins, find a place to recycle them.
Also check out this site for the most comprehensive recycling info I have found.
